Get Your Own Set of Smokey Eyes in 5 Easy Steps

Smokey eyes are the hottest look this season. Why else would you, and others, be looking for a makeup tutorial that teaches you how to get this eye makeup style? If you are into dramatic eyes, and want to get this sultry eyeshadow design, then read on.

What You Need

In order to get sexy, smokey, eyes, you need to have the following:

  • Eye primer (this won’t be necessary if you’re using airbrush eye shadow, especially if it’s from Dinair Airbrush Makeup)
  • Two shades of the same color, a light one and a dark one, (blue eyed girls can check our eye makeup for blue eyes for suggestions)
  • Eyeshadow brush or airbrush
  • Eyeliner
  • Mascara
  • Q-tips

The Procedure

Once you have everything you need for smokey eyes, follow these steps:

  1. Prepare your eyelids by applying a primer, allowing the product to dry completely before moving on to the next step. If you’re using airbrush eye shadow, then skip applying primer and spray on the eye shadow instead.
  2. Apply the lighter eyeshadow all over your eyelid. Make sure to stroke the eyeshade gently towards your brow bone. You can find out more about how to apply eyeshadow through our eye makeup tutorial.
  3. Blend in the darker shade starting from your lash line towards your crease. Make sure to blend well for maximum effect.
  4. Line your eyes using black, brown or gray eyeliner. Start from the corner of your upper lash line and make sure that the line grows thicker as you reach the middle of your eyelid. To line your bottom lashes, use an eyeliner pencil and then smudge the line with your finger.
  5. Using a q-tip, tidy up your eye area and remove any excess eyeshadow. Finally, apply 4-5 coats of mascara to perfect your dramatic eyes.

Tips to Remember

As easy as these steps may be, you will need the following tips to create that perfect set of smokey eyes.

  • Always check that both of your eyes are styled the same. You never known when you may meet a few “jealous” women who will be happy to point out any flaws in your makeup.
  • To maximize the effect of your smokey look, use nude lipstick and a very light bush.
  • Though traditionally made for black and gray eyeshadow, you can always play with colors and use bolder shades. For example, you can use electric blue mascara along with smokey blue eyes.
  • Blend eyeshades as if your life depended on it. However, it is best to use your fingers since they will give your makeup a more natural touch.
  • Practice the smokey eye look whenever you get the time, so that you can perfect applying it.

Now, grab your mirror, eyeshades, and eyeliner, and start practicing this hot look.
